Item Description
This a large (for the species), robust, doubly terminated, lustrous, dark brown-red, twinned Staurolite specimen from Brazil. It measures one and a half inches in length and and over an inch in width with well-defined faces and edges large and is well formed. It has a pseudohexagonal cross-section with flat terminations that it sits on nicely. All of the faces on the Staurolite crystal have a sparkly appearance, maybe due to what might have been the enclosing mica schist. It displays the most common type of 60 degree penetration twin for the species. Rarely do you see such a well-formed and three-dimensional example of the species, at least not from Brazil.
