Item Description
I've seen a handful of these stones from Sri Lanka. One of the more rare colors of Sapphire is green, and although this stone is not a true green color, the blending of the yellow and blue creates a dazzling effect that shows an array of colors in all directions. You can clearly see the distinct blue and yellow color zones in the stone. To top it off, this "Pear Cabochon" cut gem has a sharp and rarely seen 6-ray Star! These stones are created when thin, fibrous inclusions are are oriented inside of the Sapphire crystal at the correct angle to properly show off the "legs" of the star. When these inclusions are numerous enough to make the stone translucent or opaque, they allow light to be reflected in such a way that a star floats across the top of the stone with movement. It is an amazing phenomenon that is only seen in a few gems around the world. The actual "legs" of the star in this stone are average quality and consistency. A very cool and rarely seen Sapphire gem.
