Item Description

A gorgeous Star Sapphire gem from Thailand featuring a classic 6-rayed star that just floats across the surface when it is viewed under strong concentrated light. The color is a unique almost metallic silvery-purple hue. Star gems display what is called asterism, a "star"-shaped reflections of light that is caused by tiny fibrous inclusions in the gems. Star Sapphires are by far the most well-known examples of Star gems, but other species including Topaz, Garnet and Spinel can also exhibit asterism. This particular stone has a very fine star, with sharp legs and excellent consistency. Valued $1,005.75 high retail.
