Item Description
This speciment is unusual in several ways, which is why I rank it as a superb small cabinet piece for the species, and why it was in the well-known crystal collection of Dr. Gene Meieran. Unlike most spodumenes fro here and any other locality, which form as singles 99% of the time, this is a CLUSTER. And, it is a robust cluster with 3-dimensional crystals showing sharp temrinations, instead of the typical arrangement when you do (seldom) find clusters in which they are most often jumbly messes. So, this has symmetry and geometry goign for it. Also, the association is unusual. I am trying to recall the last time I saw muscovite rosettes embedded in spodumene like this, or even the association at all. I cannot think of seeing another piece quite like this so I wonder if this was from some small aberrant find. The muscovites are often associated with aquamarine, but not with spodumene?! Overall, the piece is complete, all around. Taken together, these qualities combine to really make it stand out. I have seen HUNDREDS of Afghani spodumenes, and so few leap out a tme. This auciton has two of the ones that did so, and of quite different styles. Valued $3500-4500
