Item Description
The yellow varietal of spodumene, called triphane, is less common from these rich gem crystal localities than green and blue spodumene. This striking large, double crystal piece is complete all around and very nearly pristine, with only the most trival of side wear bruising near a contact on the large crystal. This impressive piece looks UNIQUE, with the fine color, gemminess and unusual bar-like shape. The color is, if anything, more intense in person than in the photos. Most yellow triphanes are etched out and have poor surfaces, for whatever reason this occurs. THIS piece, though, has glassy read-through faces on the front and back in particular. The etched chisel terminations, especially the fantastic stepped-growth face on the smaller crystal are very noteworthy. At 857 grams or about 2 pounds, this is a very hefty piece for the size, and it is also an elegant one. The base has been sawed to enhance the considerable display quality. Ex Al Ordway Collection. Valued $2500-3000
