Spodumene var. Triphane ex Meieran

Item Description

This is a razor-sharp gem crystal of spodumene of the classic green variety, called triphane. Such crystals, while common in principle, tend to be etched and deformed by time and processes in the ground. This 113-gram crystal is SHARP like we almost never see, with a razor-sharp termination sloping to fine beveled edges, and none of the usual messiness on the terminations from solution effects in the pocket where it formed that affect so many (etching, absorption, etc). It is a complete, 360 degree crystal of perfection. Note it has never been to a lab for proper cleaning, as there is still pocket clay on the termination, and it could improve considerably with proper lab cleaning. We think we see a lot of spodumene but, if you stop and think about it, the fine green color is actually rarer than the pink varietal, kunzite, in truly sharp crystals like this. This is from the diverse single gem crystals suite of the 60-year-in-the-making collection of Dr. Eugene Meieran. It is a superb specimen that is shocking in person, for the combination of color and geometry. Valued $7500-9500.
