Spodumene var: Kunzite

Item Description

The world-renowned Kunzite crystals from Afghanistan are some of the most impressive examples of crystallized Spodumene extant. This particular crystal is a highly lustrous, sharp, GEM/gemmy beautiful purplish-pink colored tabular prismatic crystal with an attractive "spear head"-shaped termination. The piece has graceful etching lines along the prism faces, and I cannot find any damage of note anywhere. The base is actually crystallized (not broken), so it's a complete doubly-terminated "floater". I love how the smooth, sharp and well-formed the faces are on the termination, which play beautifully against the etching striations on the rest of the specimen. This piece also shows decent pleochroism when viewed down the "c" axis, against good lighting, but due to the thin nature of the crystal, the color is not incredibly strong. There are only a few places in the world that produce good gem quality Kunzites of any quantity outside of Afghanistan, (namely Brazil or San Diego County, California), and pieces like this seem to be slowly dwindling on the market, so don't miss out. Specimen weight is 80.44 grams. If I had this one on the shelf at a show, retail price would be about $3,500
