Item Description
A beautiful specimen consisting of a pair of fairly thick, striated prisms of pinkish-purple (with a darker color when viewed down the "c" axis), gemmy, very sharp and well-formed Spodumene (var Kunzite) from this well-known deposit in Afghanistan. The piece displays wonderfully, and is fairly gemmy on the upper portion, but my favorite aspect is the fact that it's incredibly smooth and sharp on the termination with that classic "sword"-shaped form. I can't tell for certain if the piece is a twin or a parallel growth of two crystals. Good gem crystals of Spodumene (particularly Kunzite) are only found in three places in the world with any frequency: Afghanistan, Brazil and San Diego County, California. Very little if anything comes out of California these days and the Brazilian material is on the decline in terms of production, so the only place where one can buy good gem Spodumenes these days is Afghanistan. Weight is 206 grams (1,300 carats). Priced in the inventory at $2500.
