Item Description
This is an attractive and fine quality, bi-colored gemmy Kunzite crystal from the Kantiwa Pegmatite Field in Afghanistan. This miniature-sized specimen is notably sharp and well-formed with that classic "sword"-shaped termination. The piece is actually doubly-terminated, as it's re-crystallized on the base ("re-healed"), so it's nearly a complete "floater". The outer portions of the piece has a lovely lavender-pink hue, and the central portion has pale greenish color. If you look closely under good lighting, you'll see when you look down the "c" axis of the piece shows a slightly stronger color due to the pleochroic nature of Spodumene. . You rarely see such well-formed doubly-terminated Kunzite crystals from any locality, as they are often heavily etched, so their original crystal form no longer can be seen. The form and gemminess make this piece a great example from this most prolific gem producing region. A very attractive representation of this classic material. Let me state that there are a few dings on the piece, so it's not completely pristine, but still a very good example of these well-known Kunzites. It's important to note that fine crystallized Kunzites are literally only found in a few places on earth (Brazil, San Diego County and Afghanistan) in any real quantity. Specimen weight is 57.2 grams. Ex Brian Kosnar specimen.
