A complete, perfect GEM GEM GEM transparent crystal of kunzite, this is both typical and atypical of the location at the same time! It is, first of all, gorgeous, gemmy, complete, and sharply terminated on both ends (which we call a floater). However, it is SO gemmy that this is highly unusual, for the location - and looks more Brazilian in color and transparency, although the wider termination is not normal for any Brazilian example. And yet, the provenance is unquestionable as it came to us from the Herb Obodda collection, and Herb brought it out himself, having been the one to open up Afghanistan for minerals in the late 1960s. It was in his own collection; which we bought in 2008 and then sold this to Jack Halpern. At 120 grams, it is slender and not heavy, but has a huge display impact because of height and outright quality. Like so many kunzites, it looks pastel pink on the narrow viewing axes, and hot pink when lit along the vertical (long) axis as you can see in the video. This is a gem crystal that is truly gemmy and not just "translucent," and can stand with any fancy tourmalines or aquamarines in a sophisticated collection.
