Impressive, unique looking and RARE large combination from the famous Pech pegmatites. A 15.1 cm, slightly bent, bi-colored Spodumene crystal is dramatically embedded into the base of a a striking, stout, 13.4 cm translucent to water-clear, doubly terminated Smoky Quartz crystal with satin luster faces. The large Spodumene has a gem, chisel-shaped, triphane yellow-green termination above the mostly off-white with yellow-green tints body. The other end of the Spodumene is contacted and not damaged. The large Smoky is complete all-around. The ding on one face below the termination is certainly a modest detraction to this most imposing piece. The striking, jackstraw cluster of minerals at one end below the large spodumene hosts: smaller, gemmy, triphane crystals; smaller smoky quartz crystals; a SURPRISING number of intergrown, etched-looking, tabular, hexagonal, moderately translucent Fluorapatite prisms, to 3.7 cm; small frosted, tabular Feldspar crystals; and scattered small included and and embedded needle Schorl prisms. Orange LW UV spodumene fluorescence and rich yellow SW UV apatite fluorescence. 1647 grams or 3.6 pounds mass. Ex Kurt Hefendehl Collection, a well-known German collector who amassed a world-wide collection of over 6000 pieces. A remarkable large and rare combination from Pech. Valued $5000-plus.
