Spodumene (fine doubly-terminated crystal group)

Item Description

This is a fantastic, robust, hefty classic Afghani Spodumene specimen showing excellent, smooth, well-formed faces on all sides. The piece is a complete "floater", as it is doubly-terminated because it's re-crystallized ("re-healed") on the bottom. The crystals are nearly colorless, but in certain lighting they show a pale yellow-green "triphane" hue. Specimen weight is 440 grams. It's important to note that most Spodumene crystals (regardless of the variety) are rarely as sharp and well-formed as these crystals. Most of them are either heavily etched or distorted, so to find such excellent textbook examples in a larger size with a bit of color and gemminess is rare. Priced at $1,750 in the inventory. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#247 AP), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
