Item Description
A really attractive and very gemmy "silvery" colored Spodumene crystal from Afghanistan. Most people are familiar with the classic pink Spodumene (Kunzite) crystals from this area, but this piece is interestingly devoid of color. The Spodumene crystal on this piece is only slightly hydrothermally etched at the base, and has maintained it's sharp, blocky, prism faces and "sword"-shaped termination. It is also a notable GEM crystal along with its euhedral crystal form and luster. Very good condition all around, with only a few minor rough spots here and there. Specimen weight is 45.20 grams. Ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007. You can read Steve's bio on the Mineralogical Record website ( https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=671&page=1 ) or on Wikipedia.
