Item Description

Spodumene is a well-known pegmatite mineral, which was mined initially at a lithium ore, but fine gem crystals of various hues are the most prized by collectors. Believe it or not, there have been Spodumene crystals which have been found in situ measuring up to 12 meters (almost 40 feet!) long, though they are completely opaque. Fine, euhedral, well-formed gem quality crystals are actually not terribly common in nature, as many of them can be highly etched and lose most of their crystal form. This piece is a fantastic example from the Dara-e-Pech Pegmatite Field in Afghanistan, as it is not only a completely doubly-terminated "floater" with no damage, but it's also a bi-colored specimen with a light minty green hue (Hiddenite?) on each end, and a pale golden shade in the center. The piece is not only doubly-terminated, but multi-terminated, as you can see a few individual prisms on the piece with their own distinct terminations. The central portion of the piece is fairly gemmy, while the terminations are translucent. No major damage and beautiful from all sides. A really wonderful example of what are some of the finest crystallized examples of Spodumene in the world.
PLEASE NOTE: The color is a bit lighter in the video than it looks is person, there is a bit more saturation to the piece when you hold it in your hands.
Specimen weight is 69.3 grams.
