Spinel (twinned crystal)

The marble deposits around An Phu in the Luc Yen District of Vietnam have produced some excellent Spinel crystals, some of which are notably larger than most of what you'll see from anywhere in neighboring Myanmar. This piece is a very good sized specimen showing excellent "Spinel-twins" (sometimes called "Macle" twins) with sharp, well-formed faces and a rich brownish-red hue. Unlike most crystals from this area (especially in this size), THIS piece shows a bit of deep red color and gemminess when backlit! Most Vietnamese Spinel crystals are barely translucent, but there are areas in this piece that have excellent transparency. A very showy and fine quality specimen of these beautiful and now hard-to-find Spinels. These pieces started coming out a little over 20 years ago, and now almost nothing is being mined, so if you missed out on these years ago, pick this one up for your collection.
