Item Description

A magnificent 2.5 cm spinel-twinned copper spearpoint with three "spines" is the dramatic focal point of this very aesthetic and uncommon copper specimen from this less well-known Zambian cobalt-copper mine. The sculptural floater piece has overall arborescent spinel-twinned form. Most of the crystals, except the terminations, are rounded tetrahexahedrons. The crystals have a cuprite or green copper oxide coating and most of the lower back has a secondary overgrowth of tiny hackly copper crystals. Specimens of this fine quality came out in the 1960s to early 1970s. Even the mine level and cross cut are known! This was a significant find. Very seldom on the market! Valued at $2000. from old dealer inventory of an African dealer.
