Item Description

A very aesthetic and perhaps unique spinel-twinned, floater copper miniature from recent finds at the Itauz Mine. The beautiful overall arborescent form of the spinel-twins is of herringbone-patterned "feathers". BUT, there are two, intergrown feathers and they are joined in the middle, like a hinge! They gently move about 30 degrees! The accenting dark gray coating is tenorite. This mine has on-and-off produced some of the greatest crystallized coppers ever seen, in a variety of forms, as the strip mining has come back around occasionally to the specimen-producing zone. This is an outstanding example of this habit and possibly unique style for the locality. Good enough to be in the Gene Meieran Collection. Valued at $600.
