Item Description

A striking and sculptural, large, old-time copper specimen from the famous mines at Bisbee. The piece is essentially solid spinel-twinned copper crystals with just a bit of matrix attached at the top. The dramatic and colorful front is composed of oxidized-green, nubby aggregates wormy, spinel-twinned copper. The remarkably different backside and base are composed of cuprite-coated and oxide-coated, very sharp, dendritic, spinel-twinned copper crystal clusters! A striking difference from front to back and the piece looks wing-like, from the base. Very interesting chemistry here! Classic and rare in this old-time quality and size. It looks like malachite smothered on "copper worms" to some extent, and is very neat! Ex Evan Jones' personal Arizona Collection, and valued at $600 in trade to me in some old deal. Hefty copper ore at 1145 grams or 2.5 pounds.
