Spinel (superb color)

Spinel is one of those gems that comes in a great range of colors. Most people are familiar with Ruby Spinels with their strong pink and red hues, but a large percentage of Spinels out there are not red. This stone is a fantastic, virtually eye clean, "square cushion" cut stone with a superbly saturated cobalt blue color. One of my favorite aspects of Spinel gems is that they almost have a slightly "metallic" quality to them, which gives them a distinct appearance that you just don't see in other stones. It is difficult to find superb quality Spinels - especially in this color - because of political upheaval in southeast Asia so if you're in the market for a top quality, well-cut stone with a killer color, don't pass this one up.
