A rare, old, sharp, highly modified spinel crystal from the Betroka District of Madagascar. Most of the faces on the black crystal are highly lustrous with some areas being lustrous greenish-brown and other areas being matte rust-red. Complete all-around. One end is dinged, but is certainly acceptable in the context of this fine and rare old-timer from exploration geologist Dr Jean Behier collection (i bought much of it a decade ago). there is no label with the piece, and it remained in my excess lost labels mix of unkowns, until I showed it to Dr Federico Pezzotta, also an expert on Madagascar, who confirmed it's identity.
