Spinel (new find - 2023)

From a brand new discovery at the end of 2023, here we have an attractive specimen of Spinel said to be from Laghman, Afghanistan. I've seen purple Spinels from Badakhshan in the past, but our source says they're coming from Laghman, so we're going with it. This small cabinet specimen features a sharp, well-formed, lustrous, beautiful purple color octahedron measuring 1.3 cm, sitting atop marble matrix with associated golden hexagonal crystals of Phlogopite mica. There is a little roughness on the top of the Spinel, so it's not 100% pristine, but still very attractive and aesthetically perched atop the matrix. A cool specimen for any fan of minerals of Afghanistan or worldwide Spinels.
