I have a genuine appreciation and love for gem grade Spinel. These wonderful gemstones are not only very durable but they come in a wide range of colors. There are only a handful of places in the world that produce top gem quality Spinels in any quantity. A lot of what you'll find on the market is mined in Sri Lanka. It is now becoming difficult to obtain good gem quality Spinels these days, especially as the prices keep rising overseas. Most people associated Spinels with the color red, and this stone has a beautiful rich red hue with a bit of a purple overtone. This "Cut Corner Rectangle" cut stone has an almost metallic quality to it in certain lighting, like a lot of Spinels, and this stone looks especially nice in sunlight. Amazingly, the stone is nearly eye clean, which is really impressive for a gem over 5 carats. A great stone for a collector or it would make a great center stone for a piece of jewelry.
