Item Description

Spinel is reported from many localities in Madagascar, and the label accompanying this specimen only states "Madagascar" as the locality, so we don't have a specific place where it might be from. It might possibly be from Antanimora Sud, but this is only a guess based upon a similar specimen we found online. This thumbnail sized specimen is a somewhat rounded, modified octahedron with a dark greenish-blue hue. It's essentially opaque, but with strong backlighting, you can see a tiny bit of gemminess around the edges. It's complete all around, but it's contacted on the base. A cool piece for any fan of gem crystals or Madagascar minerals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#13222). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
