Spinel (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

Spinel is reported from many localities in Madagascar, and the label accompanying this specimen only states "Madagascar" as the locality, so we don't have a specific place where it might be from. It might possibly be from Antanimora Sud, but this is only a guess based upon a similar specimen we found online. This thumbnail sized specimen is a somewhat rounded, modified octahedron with a dark greenish-blue hue. It's essentially opaque, but with strong backlighting, you can see a tiny bit of gemminess around the edges. It's complete all around, but it's contacted on the base. A cool piece for any fan of gem crystals or Madagascar minerals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#13222).
