Spinel (color shift)

Spinel is another gem that comes in a great range of colors. Most people are familiar with the Ruby Spinels, but a large percentage of Spinels out there are not red. This stone is an attractive, good size, nearly eye clean, blue Spinel gem with an "Oval" cut. This gem has a very attractive color, and actually does a slight color shift from a lovely blue color in sunlight to a purplish color in incandescent light. In my experience, good blue Spinels are not common, and usually in high demand for fine stones. It is difficult to find superb quality Spinels these days because of political upheaval in southeast Asia. It appears that these stones will soon be very very hard to come across and the days of the good Spinels may be dwindling.
