Spinel is one of those gems that occurs in a great range of colors. I think it's safe to say that most people are familiar with the Ruby Spinels, but a large percentage of Spinels out there are not red. You'll find Spinel gems in virtually every color of the rainbow, but outside of red, the predominant colors are blue, purple and pink. This is a beautiful purplish-pink Spinel from Sri Lanka, not the typical Burmese material. It is an attractive gem with a vibrannce when viewed in bright sunlight. The gem is VVS in clarity and has a traditional "Round Brilliant" cut. This is certainly a good quality Spinel, with a saturated but lively color. Keep in mind that fine quality gem Spinels are only found in a few places in the world. It should also be noted that the price of Spinels worldwide is going UP, as I've seen some RED Spinel stones that are retailing for $5,000 per carat and above.
