Gem quality Spinels are some of the most beautiful gems in the world. They almost have a metallic quality to them, and fine cut stones really look beautiful in any kind of light. Recently the Morogoro Region of Tanzania has been producing some world-class gem quality Spinels, with many superb red and pink stones in larger sizes. For a long time, the only reliable source of facet grade Spinel was the Mogok area of Myanmar, along with various localities in Sri Lanka, but these new Tanzanian stones have really bolstered the supply of material worldwide. This particular stone is a wonderful "modified keystone" cut gem with a lovely pink hue and a slight mauve overtone. There is a thin veil inclusion, but otherwise it's a fine quality stone with a beautiful color and a rarely seen cut for the species. Valued at $759.00 retail.
