Item Description
An interesting Spinel specimen from the famous Hunza Valley featuring a 1.2 cm, very dark blue (virtually black), stepped octahedral crystal along with a smaller secondary Spinel associated with golden Phlogopite mica on white marble matrix. The main Spinel crystal is not damaged, but has an interrupted growth in areas from where it obviously grew against the marble, which was later etched away to expose the treasure inside. The luster on the Spinel is excellent. One does not typically associate Spinel crystals with Pakistan, especially crystals with this odd color. This is a cool novelty piece that would fill a hole in your Spinel suite or a collection of minerals from Pakistan.
