Spinel is another gem that comes in a great range of colors. Most people are familiar with the Ruby Spinels, but a large percentage of Spinels out there are not red. This is a beautiful red Spinel from Sri Lanka, not the typical Burmese material. It is an attractive gem with a strong imperial color when viewed in the sunlight. The gem is very VERY slightly included (nearly eye clean) and has a rarely seen "Cushion Brilliant" cut. This is certainly a good quality Spinel, with a rich and almost fiery metallic color. Keep in mind that fine quality gem Spinels are only found in a few places in the world, and when you get gems over 3 carats like this one, it's rare on the market. It should also be noted that the price of Spinels worldwide is going UP, as I've seen some RED Spinel stones that are retailing for up to $4,000 per carat and above.
