A pair of attractive matrix Spinel specimens from Mogok featuring sharp, well-formed, rich purple-black colored octahedral crystals on contrasting white marble matrix. The pieces measure 4.2 x 4.1 x 3.8 cm and 3.3 x 2.9 x 2.6 cm respectively. The smaller of the two pieces actually hosts the larger Spinel, which measures 2.7 across, and is actually twinned(!), as you can see the contact plane where the two crystals are intergrown. The large piece hosts two textbook octahedra, and sits quite well on its own without the aid of a base or clay. A beautiful set from Mogok, which has produced some of the finest Spinel crystals from any world locality. The pair is priced at $1,500 retail.
