Item Description
Spinel, once called poor man's ruby, has supplanted even some rubies in pricing as gemstone rough of late. It is a highly desirable gem species, and large crystals with color are more rare than people think. A huge, significant spinel matrix specimen with juicy cherry-red crystals to 2.5 cm across, is both important and impactful to look at. This has COLOR like most of the matrix spinels from here simply do not have, of a strong saturated hue. It is complete all around save for a few contacted spots. Note the hot red fluorescence, as a bonus. Valued $2500-plus.
