Spinel is a wonderfully diverse gemstone. It's notably durable, as it has a hardness of 8, and it comes in a wide range of colors. Outside of the material that comes from Mogok, Myanmar (Burma), and Tanzania, most of the Spinels you'll see on the market are from Sri Lanka. Although most people associated gem Spinels with the color red, a large percentage of Spinels out there are either pink, blue or purple. Here we have a fantastic, rich purple colored Spinel with only VERY very slight inclusions. If you eliminate Amethyst, it's incredibly hard to find purple gemstones on the market, and good rich purple Spinels like this are very desirable. This stone has an almost metallic quality to it in certain lighting, like many Spinels. A fantastic gem of this well-known material. Valued $968.00 retail.
