Gem quality Spinel in my opinion doesn't get enough acknowledgment for what it is. Most Spinels around the world are dark and opaque, and transparent colorful material is certainly interesting and beautiful. I'm sure a lot of people have heard of Ruby Spinels, but a large percentage of Spinels out there are not red. Spinel is a gem that comes in a great range of colors, and this is a beautiful purple Spinel from Sri Lanka. It's an attractive gem with a medium purple hue with that slight metallic appearance that is often seen in non-red Spinels. The gem is slightly hazy from some small inclusions and has a traditional "Oval" cut. This is certainly a good quality Spinel with a wonderful color, and they seem to be less available on the market than they were 10 years ago.
