Sphene twin on Orthoclase ex. Ed David Coll

This impressive specimen features a 5-cm-tall, 2.7 cm wide (at widest), 1-cm-thick fat twinned sphene, unbelieveably perched UPRIGHT on a contrasting matrix of crysatllized albite! The quality and balance of this specimen, especially for this locality, is superb. Usually only Pakistani sphenes come close to this level of quality and a piece fro mBrazil is really much more scarce. When backlit, this is somewhat translucent. In person, it has a nicer pea-green color, with some yellow overtones, than the photos convey. ex Ed David Collection (Ed was a director of the White House Office of Science and Technology and a former science advisor to President Nixon).
