Item Description
The famous Elmwood Mine is known for producing superb Calcite and Fluorite specimens, but the unique and distinctive Sphalerites from this renowned locality don't get enough credit in my mind. Good crystallized examples from this mine are easy to recognize and fine specimens are truly beautiful. This small cabinet piece features many fine quality, sharp, lustrous, beautiful complex crystals of dark reddish-brown "Ruby Jack" Sphalerite measuring up to 2.3 cm, associated with accenting micro Dolomite and Quartz for a pleasing contrast. I can't find any major damage on the front/display side, but it's understandably contacted around the peripheral edges where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. There are some excellent crystals on the piece, showing beautiful morphology. A classic example of these beautiful pieces from this beloved mine.
