Item Description

The Black Rock Quarry (Ben Hogan Quarry) is well known for its beautiful pink Dolomite specimens, but it also has produced some attractive Sphalerites. A few years ago, I picked up a small parcel of these specimens from Black Rock, collected by a local rockhound. This lovely thumbnail specimen features a sharp, lustrous, dark golden-brown, complex crystal group of Sphalerite which are studded by iridescent, golden sharp Chalcopyrite crystals and tiny pale pink Dolomite rhombs. When the Sphalerite is strongly backlit, it's actually gemmy! No major damage to speak of, and it's not common to see Sphalerite from this locality on the market. A great piece for a thumbnail collector, a sulfide / Sphalerite collector, or a collector of specimens from Black Rock.
