Item Description

This mine is probably best known for its superb Bournonite specimens, but this new find has produced some attractive association specimens of Sphalerite with other minerals. The piece features semi lustrous, relatively sharp, deep reddish-black crystals of Sphalerite associated with gemmy, lustrous, crystals of colorless Augelite and minor Quartz on matrix. The largest Sphalerite group measures 4 mm, and the largest Augelite measures 3 mm. This discovery was the first time we had seen these species associated together from this mine. The quality of the Augelite crystals, despite their small size is good, and the wonderful contrast between them and the Sphalerite is really striking. A very nice display specimen from a new find at Machacamarca.
