Sphalerite var. Marmatite & Siderite after Kutnohorite (RARE COLORADO!)

Item Description

Exotic and supremely RARE large combination from the famous extinct Zn-Pb-Ag-Cu-Au-Mn Eagle Mine of Colorado. Siderite has pseudomorphed dramatic sprays and extensive crusts of VERY RARE for the locale, Kutnohorite, a Dolomite Group species. The striking large cluster of elongated pseudos is 4.7 across and 4.0 cm tall. MINDAT lists Kutnohorite for the locale, but there are NO examples in the locality Photo Gallery. The siderite pseudos rest on a substantial large matrix of densely intergrown moderately lustrous twinned jet-black Sphalerite variety Marmatite crystals (iron rich). Scattered Pyrite crystals are visible in the piece and on the edges. The attachment on the back has a core of Quartz with much more pyrite. Hefty and rich zinc ore at 2208 grams of 4.9 pounds.
