Item Description
Mining at Trepča has been documented since the late Middle Ages, with the Stari Trg Mine being the central mine at this historic locality. First-rate specimens, sulfides and phosphates alike, have been produced there over the years. This excellent, small-cabinet specimen is a cluster of well-formed, lustrous, silvery-black crystals of Sphalerite, many being Spinel twinned crystals. The largest crystal is about 3 cm on edge, and the surface is remarkably detailed. The iridescent patina adds a whole nother aesthetic to the piece. Slender, well-formed, and terminated Quartz crystals up to 1.4 cm add contrast and interest, making this a choice combination piece for the Trepča complex.
