Item Description

This specimen hosts a pair of excellent, razor sharp, rather lustrous, twinned crystals of Sphalerite from the famous Buckwheat Pit in Franklin. The crystals, which appear black, are actually a very deep red hue, and the color can be seen with strong backlighting. The twins are small (<1mm), but are a classic example of this well known material. I have photographed the twins under the microscope, which is truly the best way to view them since the piece is a micro specimen. A great Sphalerite from the famous Rich Kosnar collection, who obtained it from noted New Jersey collector, Pat Gross.
