Item Description

Sphalerite comes in wide variety of colors from numerous world localities. One of the rarest colors for Sphalerite is bright yellow. The Lockport area in New York has produced a small amount of what are some of the most vivid yellow Sphalerite crystals that I've seen from any locality. The crystals are typically small, but the color is as bright as native sulfur. This piece hosts several small translucent crystal groups on contrasting grey rock matrix. I photographed the Sphalerites under the microscope to better illustrate their quality. If you're an east coast mineral collector, or an admirer of this gemmy sulfide species, be sure to pick this one up. From the Brian Kosnar collection.
