Item Description

Here we have a VERY hard to find specimen of Sphalerite labeled as only coming from Warren, New Hampshire with good pedigree. Originally the piece was in the collection of Frank Hess and later it went to Al Sebela. Larry Conklin acquired the specimen and it eventually ended up Gerry Morvell's collection. It's the ONLY Sphalerite specimen that we've had to offer from the area. It's possible that the piece is from the Ore Hill Mine, which according to the entry on mindat.org stopped operating in 1915, so this piece likely well over a century old! Several sharp, well-formed, lustrous crystals of Sphalerite measuring up to 1.0 cm across show a deep green hue and with some backlighting, there are areas of moderate translucency. Associated blades of white Calcite and little Quartz crystals can be seen on the piece as well for a nice touch. Good quality overall, though there are some contacted areas when you look closely. If you collect sulfides or minerals of New England / New Hampshire, don't miss out on this incredibly rare locality piece.
