Item Description

Sphalerite is one of the few sulfide minerals that is found in gem quality material. For reference, other common sulfides are minerals like Pyrite and Galena, but they're always opaque, and it's nearly impossible to find faceted stones on the market, even as a novelty. Bulgaria is probably the best active region producing gem quality Sphalerite in the world right now. Some of the best gem quality green, yellow and orange Sphalerite in the world is found in the Madan Region of Bulgaria. This particular gem is a good sized stone with a "Modified Mumble Brilliant" cut. The color is mostly a rich golden hue, but when you rotate it in the light, you can see slight yellow highlights as well. This stone has some slight inclusions, but this material is almost impossible to find in completely clean stones in this size. The stone is not "murky", and really looks good in strong lighting. The stone was cut by Robert Heath in September of 2022.
