Sphalerite on Quartz

These are some of the most richly colored gem quality Sphalerites around. I remember that these were some of the first Sphalerites to come out of China over 10 years ago, and the color is amazing. This specimen hosts sharp, lustrous, gemmy, RICH red-orange color modified crystals of Sphalerite with associated drusy grey Quartz on matrix. When these crystals are backlit, the color they exhibit is fantastic, and truly doesn't look quite like Sphalerite from any other mine in the world. This is beautiful material, especially considering it's a transparent sulfide! There aren't many localities producing gem quality Sphalerite these days, and these specimens from Shuikoushan are becoming more and more difficult to find. Enjoy. The back of the piece does have a saw mark, but we still price this one at $1200 retail.
