Sphalerite on Quartz

Some of the finest Sphalerite specimens of mineral collecting's modern era are those from the Shuikoushan Mine in older finds of the late 90s and early 2000s. Highly lustrous and gemmy, these crystals have an intense, orange-amber glow, especially when backlit. Such choice characteristics, especially in combination with the drusy layer of very sharp Quartz, instantly made these specimens exceptionally popular in the early 2000s. These complex Sphalerites range up to about 1.4 cm, and the cluster here is about 3.4 cm across. Interestingly, this highly-representative, small-cabinet piece seems to be a near-floater, with no significant attachment points intruding on the 360-degree aesthetics. The lovely Sphalerites are beckoning, and keep in mind that pieces like this are not often seen on the market anymore. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl, a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces.
