Item Description

The San Jose mine is one of the most significant Bolivian localities both from the standpoint of production and longevity. It has produced a few "best of species" minerals in its history, not to mention thousands of tons of Tin and Silver. This specimen was mined in the late 1970's when the mine was really booming with specimen production. It features a few gemmy, reddish-orange complex crystals of Sphalerite sitting on golden Pyrite on matrix. The largest Sphalerite aggregate measures 7 mm across. A good reference piece of a species that is not often seen in display specimens from this mine.
