Sphalerite on Galena (excellent thumbnail) (ex Mark Kielbaso Collection)

Item Description

A beautiful thumbnail sized piece of this classic material from the Gordonsville Mine, next to the famous Elmwood Mine. This piece is features brilliant, richly reddish-brown colored, gemmy, lustrous little crystals of "Ruby Jack" Sphalerite which are elegantly coating a cubic crystal of silvery-grey metallic Galena, with no matrix. The piece displays beautifully as you can see from the photos, and it actually sits on its own without the aid of a base or clay. No damage on the top/display side of the piece, but it is contacted on the base where it was removed from the matrix. A wonderful thumbnail for anybody who collects sulfides, metallic minerals, pieces from the United States or just attractive association specimens. This piece comes to us from the Mark Kielbaso collection, and there was a note with the specimen that states it was found in 1983 at the 035 #6 portion of the mine.
