Item Description
Two clusters of Sphalerite crystals rest on a matrix of sharp, 2mm Dolomite crystals. One Sphalerite cluster, 2.7 cm across, is perched perfectly on top of the specimen, while the larger cluster sits just below. The deep cinammon Sphalerites are actually quite gemmy, and some flashes of red do occur even though the color is so deep. The luster is excellent, and there is just minimal edgewear. The piece is highly representative for this famous locality, and the well-crystallized Sphalerites help create a good aesthetic. Although common overall as a species and from this locality, this is a particularly aesthetic specimen in an ideal size range. It is just "better than most," after seeing so many over the years, and stands out. Ex Jeffrey Starr collection.
