Item Description
A really interesting piece! Large sharp sphalerite crystals are VERY RARE from the renowned Franklin Mining District. Sharp, moderately lustrous gray compound and single sphalerite crystals are aesthetically clustered amidst broken sections of lustrous rubyjack and translucent olive-green sphalerite. The sculptural compound sphalerite is 3.1 cm across and the large single sphalerite is 2.6 cm. The sphalerites rest atop a dense hefty granular gray dolomite matrix. This is an exceptional and rare large old-timer from the Paterson Museum Collection and was a gift from Harvard University. A MUST for the Franklin and species collector.
