Item Description

Sphalerite is known from many localities around the world in gem quality specimens, but arguably the finest and most famous GEM Sphalerites are those from what used to be called "Picos de Europa" / "Santander", but it now more accurately labeled as the Las Manforas Mine (Aliva Mine), Camaleño, Cantabria, Spain. This stone is a large, impressive, very lively "Oval Brilliant" cut gem with dancing yellow/golden hues and minor red spots of color inside. The high refractive index of the material bounces the light around every side of the gem. Yes, there are some eye visible inclusions, but it's almost impossible to find a completely CLEAN stone that weighs over 50 carats from this locality. The stone truly looks better in person than the photos / video might indicate. It's actually best viewed in sunlight. From what I have been told, there is very little of this material out on the market. If you collect rare gems or important large stones, do not miss out on this beautiful, colorful and bright gem as they are rarely seen in this size and quality on the market today. High retail value on this gem is $4544.10
