Item Description

An impressive, hefty, large, VERY well formed, lustrous, jet black color (with reddish brown highlights), predominant Spinel-Law twinned crystal group of Sphalerite is aesthetically flaring out of a crystallzed group of additional Sphalerites. This is undoubtedly one of the largest and finest twinned Sphalerites from Peru that I have seen. The piece is not 100% perfect, and there are a few rough spots here and there, but overall, it's a striking specimen with great aesthetics, balance and sheer visceral appeal. For a "black" mineral, this one certainly stands out, and looks better in person than the photos indicate. This piece was once part of the famous Richard A. Kosnar collection, and he personally purchased the piece in Peru in the early 1970s. The piece has resided in the collection of Brian Kosnar for the last few years. A wonderful, large "fist"-sized display specimen. The specimen retains one of Rich Kosnar's old typewriter numbers on the base (1247). PLEASE NOTE that due to the weight of this specimen, an additional shipping charge will be added to your shipment. Valued at $700-$900.
